First off, i'd like to apologise to paul. Truely.
It was one sunny day at work, the perfect day to go parts collecting... closing time came and i was in a money splashing mood.
''Paul you fancy comming for a little cruise with me to collect some bits a bobs''
.... at this point trying to stay as non-descript about the journey and the aim of the journey as possible.... if anyone had tried to ram a full interior in a mk2 golf already with an interior and an occupant will you'll know it aint all that comfy
most of the journey there wasnt all that bad, i told paul we were heading for deep deep wales, and that we were going to collect a full leather interior. i didnt get punched in the head, so by my reckoning i was winning at that point.
But as we entered what must have been a fucking rally stage, rolling hills, winding mountain roads and perfect tarmac, not a single person or car for miles and miles....the sun began to go down thats were the inevitable troubles started.
alternator light on, fuck it keep going...30 miles left.
water temp creeping up.... fuck it keep going......
then the lights began to fade. and we were put into almost darkness. fuck.
you see the best thing and worst thing about an IDI diesel is that once its started you dont actually need an alternator to run it. so it will keep on driving even with a flat battery.
bad news is i dont have night vision eyes.
for some some reason, of ALL the places to stop we stopped outside the gayest post office i have EVER seen. if paul hadnt of got a picture i wouldnt of believed him.....

my hash up of a petrol alternator on a diesel engine had put mad stresses on the alternator mounting bracket and literally torn it off the head at high rpm.
that will be the v-max attempts on the way down then......
i've never been so happy to have a boot full of cable ties in my life, we used about a thousend of them to brace the bracket to the head with spanners, screwdrivers, drill bits and allen keys.
and you know what, that got us all the way to collect the interior, and all the way home.
fuck recovery.
