Edition 38 2009 Part Three.

And that began Edition 38 09 for us, pulling over innocent Dubbers with our siren, lights and Hi Viz get up. Laughing loudly, and smiling, we drove through the familiar gates into ‘a field in Northampton’.

I say that was the beginning, but really it began a couple of weeks earlier, ideas bouncing around the net, threats of violence for lack of direction and hours trawling ebay and every B&Q in the south of England for a Marquee we could afford. An idea had been settled on, 2nd hand car lot and a car lot of stuff now needed to be shifted from the South coast to the scene of the crimes, we racked that poor BM to the roofline and above, stuffed every cranny and massively overloaded the hastily bought trailer.

Driving through the site was too tempting, I mean the PA was on the roof, the lights were flashing… “ nice car, good choice, shame about the hat” “We will be back to perform complex emissions testing on you lot”,” you there. You. Stop that, it’s not healthy” Luckily we arrived at friendly faces before anyone could commit us to memory.

Action

The boys had done good, it was prime position, slap bang next to Winnebago land and ideally suited for maximum look at us’ness. Immediately after arrival Feast and I sprang into action, (lol) and began to instruct the massed number of cretins and youngsters that looked at us Doe eyed for general guidance. Everyone was set a task and, amazingly a proportion them stuck to it.

Wind

Not really in the plans. Howling, gale force, you know, bloody worrying, more like. We had not exactly been shopping in the upper echelons of Gazebo tech and the string provided was not going to hold this THING to the ground, not a good look in a field full of £5k paint jobs. EVERYONE. Get your spare wheels out, tie them to the big white flapping tent thing,

Rich, what have you in the back of your caddy? Old chains, good, numerous jacks, better, 30m of filthy straps. It’ll do. Duck/Duct tape, by the metre, “Stop taping Chris to the ground” Eventually, by using Tom’s car to ratchet to, the thing started to hold, the thought of it flying, un-tethered through the site, never really strayed from my mind though…

Cars

Slowly, the idea that had been words on a forum, began to take shape, kids with artistic ability, Lath and Lando set to the sign, Paul got in the way, Matt and Mex directed the cars around and lo, we had a passable 2nd hand car lot. Lighting and power were connected, the generator was started, barriers were erected and beer was consumed.

Eventually after 3 hours work we could truly stand and say:

“We’ve got this”
